Atelier Boz (stylized: Atelier BOZ) is a gothic and lolita fashion brand in Japan.
History
The brand was founded in 1995 by Bunka Fashion College graduates Takashi Shibata and Keiji Ichimura with the motto of pursuing classic and medieval European and gothic fashion. In 2000, they opened their first shop in Sapporo and in 2001, they opened their Tokyo shop. Atelier Boz started out as a gothic brand, but later started making gothic lolita designs at the advice of Atelier Pierrot.
Clothing, primarily gothic lolita dresses and jackets, by Atelier Boz features sleek silhouettes in women’s and men’s size. The brand’s most used colors are black and white. Wine and navy releases are also common. Atelier Boz’s most iconic product is the Roland Jacket which is a knee-length jacket featuring a built in vest and two columns of buttons running down the front. The jacket can be used in both lolita and ouji fashion. Its popularity stems from the clean cut making it very versatile piece.
Atelier Boz’s sister brand was Lapin Agill. Lapin Agill’s style leaned more towards a more classic lolita direction. The designs were more elegant and often more frilly than Atelier Boz’s signature style.
In 2021, the original designer almost shut the brand down, but newer designers received permission to continue the brand keeping the same resources such as patterns and factories. Atelier Boz re-opened in 2022 with a new webshop. Their products are now sold through Alpstola.

Trivia
Atelier Boz had stores in Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya. The Nagoya shop closed in 2020. It is possible to make minor size alterations when shopping in-store.
Atelier Boz and Atelier Pierrot used to share a shop in Osaka.
The old webshop was so old that they couldn’t process credit cards which made it almost impossible to buy from.
Before making gothic lolita designs, they mainly produced stage costumes for visual kei bands.
The Roland Jacket has over 20 variations.
In recent years, they have started making some items in L size.
Some of the shop staff who were working at the time of the closure announcement saved the brand. One of those shop staff went on to open the select shop Choice Closet.
