Running in the 90’s…
Level Up is the latest themed anime and video game cafe pop-up at Popfancy Dessert Bar. This theme is all about the ’90s nostalgia. The Level Up theme runs from May 29 through June 19, 2022. Join them for themed decor and food, cosplay contests, live music, and free games. It’s a real blast to the past for any millennial!
Also, June is Pride month, so happy Pride Month! Popfancy Dessert Bar is one of Houston’s very own LGTBQ-owned cafes!
Level Up Decor
Walk into the past with your favorite anime series! The walls feature iconic characters such as Sailor Moon, Goku (Dragonball Z), Luffy (One Piece), Spike Spiegel (Cowboy Bebop), and more. Several video game cabinets line the walls which hold an assortment of games which attendees can play for free. Next to the cabinets you’ll see featured cosplays of Morrigan (Darkstalkers) and Asuke Langley (Neon Genesis Evangelion).
Level Up Menu
The menu for this event has a fun spin on some classic childhood treats. Starting with the savory options, there are two fun takes on Lunchables: the big kid pizza bagel lunchable box and the big kid charcuterie board lunchable box. The pizza one made me extremely nostalgic! The Hot Cheetos macaroni and cheese is pretty self-explanatory. If you like Hot Cheetos, here you go. The Mega Munchies Supreme is essentially a leveled up Frito pie; it is Doritos, Fritos, and Hot Cheetos covered in nacho cheese, tomatoes, and cilantro with the option of adding chili and jalapeños (which I definitely recommend adding).
For sweets, Popfancy always has a varied assortment to choose from! The pouched drinks are a modern take on the classic Capri Sun; each flavor contains a soda and candy. A dairy drink option is the jumbo Japanese strawberry milk served in a cute bottle you can take home.
If you’re in the mood for ice cream, they’ve got sundaes. I tried two of them: the Pink Circus and the Cosmic Chocolate Lovers. The Pink Circus sundae contains strawberry ice cream, pink puff cereal, circus animal crackers, strawberry Pocky, and cotton candy all covered in a white chocolate drizzle. The Cosmic Chocolate Lovers sundae contains chocolate ice cream, Cocoa Puffs cereal, Oreos, and Cosmic Brownie all covered in a chocolate drizzle. There’s also the option of an Eggo waffle topped with your choice of cereal. We got Fruit Loops and Trix on top of our waffle.
What a blast from the past! As a millennial, the experience brought back a lot of fond memories. I also made a video highlighting my favorite parts of the cafe!
