Sea of Serenity: Online J-Fashion Event, September 4-7, 2020

Sea of Serenity is an online J-fashion event coming soon. The event is similar to a convention; it will have panels, a fashion walk, an online tea party, and debuts of special releases by local indie brands! Since attending conventions in-person is not advised for the unforeseen future, the hosts The Black Ribbon and JFashion on Demand have been working hard to bring the fun of the kawaii community to an online interactive medium. Sea of Serenity will be held online September 4-7, 2020.

Sea of Serenity will have an optional theme. Below is a description of the theme’s concept. Soothing, calming waves combined with a sunset by the sea that encapsulates the transition from summer to fall. The Sea of Serenity is the name of a lunar mare, and for you anime fans it is the supposed location of a certain moon princess’s kingdom.  If you want to dress “on theme” for this event (although there is no pressure to do so!) you might choose to focus on the sea with mermaids, sailor outfits, pirates, sea life, etc. or maybe on the lunar aspect with moon phases, night skies, other space themes, or best of all, focus on the serene and find the outfit that make you the most at peace. Cheers!

Participating Brands

On the first day of the event, September 4, these participating indie brands and artists will be dropping special event items! Some of the brands have already released previews of their new items, so make sure to follow each of them on social media for updates.

The following brands will not be releasing new collections, but will be offering a special event discount!

Fashion Walk

The fashion walk is a virtual fashion show open to anyone who would like to showcase their style. Applications for the fashion walk are currently open now until September 1, 2020 at 11:59 PM PDT.

Coordinate Contest

There is also an optional coordinate contest. The contest is divided into 2 categories: elegant and pop. The elegant category is for styles such as, but not limited to lolita fashion, mori, otome, boy-style, etc. The pop category is for styles such as, but not limited to decora, fairy kei, visual kei, etc. Check the prizes on the SOS Contests page.

Panels

Various panels will be hosted on Saturday and Sunday of the event. Most of the panels will be streamed on the JFashion on Demand Twitch channel, though some may be streamed through the host’s own channel. Check the schedule for day 1 and day 2 for full details!

My Panel

If you’re free on Sunday, check out the J-Fashion and Social Media panel! I will be participating as one of the hosts with Mindy (@mintypile), Obsixwi (@obsixwi), Kaiser (@cursed.kaiser), and Hannah (@cakecalamity). Join us as we discuss how social media has affected J-fashion culture and advice on how you can further your reach while remaining genuine and socially accountable without letting social media adversely affect your own notion of self-worth. Our panel will be at 3:00–4:30 PM EST/12:00–1:30 PM PDT.

Virtual Tea Party

Tea of Serenity is the name of SOS’s virtual tea party to be hosted on Monday, September 7, 2020! The tea party is available for two time slots. Though the application deadline has already passed, but you can still apply to be on the wait list.

Fundraiser Raffle

Sea of Serenity is hosting a charity raffle for Doctors without Borders, a non-profit organization that provides medical assistance to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, or exclusion from healthcare. To enter, simply make at least a $5 donation here and forward your receipt to [email protected]. Every $5 will count as one ticket, so if you donate $20 that will count as 4 tickets. There are three sets of prizes to win!

Now that you’ve read all about Sea of Serenity, is there anything you’re looking forward to? I still need to record my fashion walk video and prepare for my segments of the social media panel, so I’ll be busy with those tasks this weekend. I’m thinking my coord will be a pirate theme or a moon theme…maybe both?

For the latest updates, follow the Sea of Serenity event page and information page!
