Tokyo Night Festival will be hosting its first maid cafe night this weekend! This maid cafe will be Houston’s first gourmet and authentic maid cafe experience with a sit-down restaurant setting.
Maid Cafe Night, sponsored by Kikori Whiskey, will take place at Shun Japanese Kitchen on Saturday April 16, 2022. Contrary to the name, it will actually an all-day event with lunch and dinner time blocks. Guests will be served first come, first serve, so it’s best to arrive early. While guests wait in line, will also be able to shop at the vendor booths outside.
For one day only, experience this uniquely Japanese otaku phenomenon without having to leave Texas. A team of kawaii (cute) maids will serve guests cafe foods such as omurice, curry, takoyaki, sides, and dessert. The organizers invited me to a sneak peek of their menu, so of course, I had to dress up on theme.
Maid Cafe Menu
The maid cafe menu was curated by the chefs Naoki Yoshida and Yusuke Motozawa of Shun Japanese Kitchen, Hako Bento, and Powered by Rice. Some of the sides on the menu include Japanese staples like takoyaki and chicken karaage along with some contemporary sides such as truffle macaroni and cheese and truffle french fries.
For entree, I recommend ordering the omurice (omelette rice) since it’s a staple of the moe moe kyun maid cafe experience. When you order an omurice, the maids will draw a cute design right at the table!
The menu will also include some desserts by Shun’s pastry chef Renee Yoshida and special Kikori Whiskey cocktails. The Kikori Whiskey drinks will also come in a cute cat-shaped mug that guests will be able to take home.
