LaForet Harajuku Brands Collaborate for Young Magazine’s 40th Anniversary with xxxHOLiC, Ghost in the Shell, Initial D Manga Clothing

LaForet Harajuku will be holding a special exhibition and collaboration series with Young Magazine, published by Kodansha, for the magazine’s 40th anniversary. 15 of the LaForet shops will produce official collaboration clothing based on some of the magazine’s most popular series. The collaboration will run from Saturday, August 29, 2020 to Sunday, September 13, 2020.

Young Magazine, also known as Weekly Young Magazine, is a Japanese seinen weekly manga anthology magazine. The first issue was published on June 16, 1980. Some its notorious series include Initial D, Ghost in the Shell, Prison School, Ping-Pong Club, My Roomie is a Dino, Gambling Apocalypse: Kaiji, xxxHOLiC, BE-BOP-HIGHSCHOOL, Himizu, Flower & Bees, and Ciguatera. Collectively, over 50 fashion items will be released by the brands. The items range from simple T-shirts to more creative character motif dresses.

Some brands have started releasing product details while others have only released preview images. All prices below include tax.

The Collaboration Exhibition

In addition to the clothing collaborations, there will be a special exhibition in the LaForet Museum Harajuku on the 6th floor. The exhibition will highlight 40 years of Young Magazine. Special contents include original reproductions of 30+ popular works and a 10+ meter scroll with illustrations drawn by over 60 manga-ka. They will also sell limited T-shirts featuring the 40th anniversary promo image illustrated by artist Kosuke Kawamura.

What do you think of the 14 preview images? Only MINT NeKO has not given previewed anything yet. Since there are 50+ items, it’s estimated that each brand will release around 3-4 pieces each. Keep your eyes out on the brands’ social media for more details!
