EVENT SNAPS | Magical Girl Day 2019

Magical Girl Day is a two day event in Houston celebrating all things relating to the mahou shoujo genre. Originally, the event started as International Sailor Moon Day, but rebranded itself to keep growing. Magical Girl Day 2019 was held on August 3-4, 2019 at the Red Lion Hotel Intercontinental. Though it’s been happening for a few years, this was the first time I could actually attend. I came for a few hours at the end of Sunday, so I missed the majority of the main events, but I did manage to snap a few photos.

Fellow Texan lolita Tyler, also known as ScarfingScarves, was one of the featured guests. If you don’t know her, she’s most known for her Last Week Lolita News segment on YouTube. She was wearing Angelic Pretty’s Merry Making Party print JSK with the matching headbow, a princess sleeve blouse, polka dotted socks, and tea party shoes. All in pink of course. Follow her on Facebook, Instagram, and Patreon.

Another featured guest was Toshi who also goes by Dollfille. Toshi is a makeup artist, hair stylist, from New York. The way she does her dramatic eye makeup is spectacular. Toshi’s outfit consists of a iridescent purple crop top, checkerboard pants, and white ankle boots. For accessories, she’s using a black headbow, a lace jabot, and pink leather garter. Follow Dollfille on Facebook and Instagram.

Veronica is in my local community. She just happened to be standing in the right place at the right time. In the sea of pink and other pastels, her black and white old school lolita coordinate really stood out. The outfit consists of the iconic Baby, the Stars Shine Bright Babydoll JSK, a rectangle headdress, black blouse, layered socks, and platform mary jane shoes. Follow her on Instagram.

Lastly, I was able to catch the final event of the day: the fashion showcase. Any attendees could sign up to show off their outfits on the runway. I only managed to get a few non-blurry shots, but there were so many happy faces on stage! You can click each photo to see who the models are. If I didn’t know your handle, leave a comment below and I’ll add it.

That’s it for my two hour Magical Girl Day experience! It was a relaxing fan event with shopping, performances, and socializing. It’s a smaller event, so you never feel rushed like at at a bigger event like a convention. You are welcome to share these images on social media, just credit @buttcape for the photo.
