Okashicon is the largest kawaii fashion convention in Texas! Okashicon 2023 hosted 4 different J-fashion brands in their fashion show. The fashion show took place July 7, 2023 at the Courtyard by Marriott Austin Pflugerville. What makes Okashicon’s fashion shows great is that they really focus on uniting both the Japanese industry and local American communities.
The brands in 2023’s showcase all featured colorful outfits for the runway. This post covers the American indie brands portion of the show: Devilish Angel, Puvithel, and Candy Trap. The fourth brand 6%dokidoki will be covered in the next post.
The show started with a short introduction from the Okashicon staff members. One of Okashicon’s mottos is “kawaii is for everyone.”

Devilish Angel
First up on the runway was Devilish Angel, an American indie brand focused on comfort and accessibility in fashion. This segment of the show featured 7 models wearing various casual outfits. Devilish Angel’s motifs included a mix of rainbows, angel wings, anime style characters, and cats.

I first met designer Gabihime at Okashicon in 2018. Previously, I also photographed their fashion show from Anime Weekend Atlanta 2023.

Puvithel
Next in line was American indie brand Puvithel as the second brand in the show. The transition between the brands was seamless since the two brands feature some mutual themes and motifs. Puvithel’s clothing also highlights comfort and accessibility in alternative fashion. Puvithel explores menhera themes in their prints. Five models showcased Puvithel’s original designs.

I first photographed a Puvithel fashion show at a past Oni-Con. It was great seeing her in Texas again!
CANDY☆TRAP
Third on the runway was Candy Trap, a vibrant and colorful brand by cybr.grl. Candy Trap is all about fun and colorful designs inspired by Harajuku decora fashion. The brand featured bold rainbow colors and geometric patterns full of contrast. This was their second year participating in the fashion show at Okashicon.

I also first met cybr.grl at a past Okashicon! It’s always a pleasure to see her colorful expressions.
