My Hero Academia Inspired Cafe | Haru Matsuri at Popfancy

Popfancy is back with another anime cafe! This time the theme is based on the My Hero Academia anime with a spring festival theme aka the “Haru Matsuri.” The My Hero Acedemia Haru Matsuri cafe will run from April 7 through April 30, 2023. The cafe decor features cutouts of My Hero Academia characters dressed in yukata as they enjoy a sakura festival. Popfancy went all out with sakura decorations and festival stall tables, creating an immersive cafe experience.

About My Hero Academia

My Hero Academia, also known as Boku No Hero Academia, is the popular shounen anime series that follows the protagonist Deku on his journey to become the number one Hero. My Hero Academia originally started as a manga published in the manga magazine Weekly Shounen Jump, the same magazine that has published other hit shounen manga/anime such as Dragon Ball, Naruto, One Piece, Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, and so many more. The series takes inspiration from Marvel‘s X-Men.

Protagonist Deku’s unique feature is that he is “quirkless.” This means that he has no special superhuman ability of his own, causing him to be a social outcast and often picked on by his former childhood friend Bakugo. While walking home from school one day, Deku sees Bakugo captured by a ‘villain’ and steps in, despite being weak and having no super human abilities. This catches the eye of the Number 1 Hero Almight, who then decides to secretly pass on his quirk to Deku. The story then follows Deku and Bakugo both entering the top hero producing school UA High School, with villains lurking around every corner. The story follows Deku’s journey to becoming the Number 1 Hero.

Featured characters for this pop-up include Deku, Bakugo, Todoroki, Ochaco, Nejire, and Momo dressed in festival yukata. See them around the whole cafe.

Menu

For the My Hero Academia cafe spring festival menu, there are sweet and savory options designed with a sakura viewing in mind.

Build your own taiyaki sundae! Taiyaki is a popular fish-shaped cake that is sold at many street festivals. You can choose the ice cream falvors, sauce, and toppings.

More sweet drinks and ice cream are also available. We also tried Deku’s One For All parfait, Ochaco’s cherry blossom latte, and Katsuki’s dragonfruit mango slushy. The strawberry parfait contained layers of sweet yogurt, fresh strawberries, and sponge cake. The cherry blossom latte was sakura flavored milk with a strawberry compote and topped with whipped cream and rose petals. The slushy was blended layers of dragonfruit and mango.

Japanese sandwiches (sando) always make a convenient snack in the streets. Jirou’s sando is a classic sando combo made with fresh strawberries, whipped cream, and milk bread.

Lastly, here is one more bread item because we’re big fans of milk bread. This one is savory if you’re looking for a break from sweets. Mirio’s cheese toast is a slice of Hokkaido milk bread with Korean-inspired corn cheese and imitation crab topping. It comes with a side of kimchi as well.

Visit Popfancy

Popfancy themed cafe events are usually crowded on the weekends, so it’s recommended to visit on a weekday if you can. If you don’t want to wait in line, you can also wait in the virtual queue or reserve a fastpass. All entry information is written on their website.

The Japanese inspired decor will make for some great photos. Cosplay is welcome!

I highly recommend all MHA fans to visit this My Hero Academia cafe! Thanks to Popfancy and Snap2 for inviting me to visit.

Outfit Rundown

Since I didn’t have anything Boku no Hero related, I wore a black and red kimono and gothic lolita fusion outfit. Lately, I’ve been into wa lolita with its intricate details.
