Night at the FOMO Factory

Welcome to Houston, FOMO Factory! The FOMO Factory is an interactive art installation with 17 different rooms. Its concept is to “escape to childhood” by traveling back in time. First opened in Austin, TX, the pop-up has opened a second location at Houston’s The Galleria. It’s located on the third floor of the mall with a big sign hanging from the ceiling, so you can’t miss it. All of the rooms had a fun and vibrant theme. The colorful backdrops were perfect for J-fashion shoots.

I had a few friends visiting from out of town, so we decided to visit to escape the Houston heat. We arrived an hour before closing. They highly suggest having 90 minutes to experience the full exhibit (they’re right), but they were kind enough to let us in last minute. When you walk in, you’re greeted with a positive attitude from the staff and receive a name tag for time travel. What I liked about it was they were selling a whole experience not just a bunch of photosets. Despite the short time we had, I managed to get a few keepers. The lighting was actually pleasantly good. The founder and her father built the business together and it was interesting to hear the stories of how it was executed from her father since he constructed the rooms himself.

I had seen the giant moon piece from a few Instagram photos and chose to wear AP’s Holy Lantern to match it. I coordinated it in a really simple way with a bolero and ankle socks, so I wouldn’t overheat since Texas summer is intense.

Outfit Rundown

  • Dress: Angelic Pretty Holy Lantern JSK
  • Outer: Na+H Long Sleeve Frill Bolero
  • Socks: Alice and the Pirates Torchon Lace Ankle Socks
  • Shoes: Alice and the Pirates Croix Strap Shoes

Unfortunately, they announced permanent closures of both the Austin and Houston locations yesterday. They are commenting that there are no plans to re-open, so those who didn’t get to to go will experience the ultimate FOMO. I was hoping to visit again, but thank you for the great experience FOMO Factory!
